Maclean has always been a favorite author of mine. This is by far the best book I've read written by him. It's definite that I enjoy this book particularly because of it's association with the dynamics of a ship.

As I've grown up on a ship, I personally understand everything Maclean talks about in his book. When Maclean writes about port authorities, a 100 percent spot check, agents, cargoes, radio rooms, and especially the relationship between the ranks of the crew and captain of the ship, I feel personally attached to these things as I've experienced, or observed them in person.

It is amazing how parallel shipping has been from 1962 till today. I am thoroughly surprised at how well I relate to Maclean's writing.  In fact, from what I've read from Maclean, not much factors have changed about the dynamics of shipping. It is clear that Maclean's writing has been well influenced by personal experience himself as his factual accuracy about sailing proves. Thus, my attachment to this book has a strong sense of sentiment.

In addition to my sentiment, Maclean pumps the story line with fast-paced action and mysteries that are just right to my taste in action or thriller novels. He never leaves too much space between events to bore the reader, yet he does not leave out on explaining important details for the imaginative mind.

As the story unravels, the more the reader is drawn into the plot. As the plot is being drawn, the more the reader would take the story as believable. The  Golden Rendezvous is a novel that must not be left on the shelf to dust. A captivating novel for any reader. Even more, if you are a sailor, there is definitely reason for you to read this wonderful book!
